Starting with the class of 2016, you must pass a civics test in order to graduate.

American Civics Education Initiative, S.B. 60, was passed in the Utah legislative session of 2015. This law requires the successful passage of a basic civics test or an alternate assessment as a condition of graduation. This requirement applies to any public school students who graduate on or after January 1, 2016, as well as any student enrolled in an adult education program.

The Civics test is available on Student Passport. It can be completed at any time. We encourage all of our 8th and 9th graders to get it completed as soon as possible.

Test Format

  • You must pass the test with 35 correct responses. The test is automatically scored, so you will receive immediate feedback.

  • Once the test is successfully completed, you are done; your score will be saved and recorded as successfully meeting the requirement.

  • If you are unsuccessful, you will need to retake the test. The test generator will select another 50 random questions. You may take the test as many times as necessary.

  • The test has a save button, so it does not need to be completed all in one sitting. As long as you save your work, you can log back in and continue the test.

  • If you have questions, please contact the Counseling Department.
